Chorus Has Moved to PROTEOBASE

All Chorus proteomics datasets have been securely preserved and are now accessible on PROTEOBASE without changes to links, citations, or licenses.

What Happened

Following the conclusion of NIH funding for Chorus, long-term stewardship of the data was required. EuropaDX partnered with the community to preserve this critical proteomics resource in PROTEOBASE.

  • All Chorus datasets migrated to PROTEOBASE
  • Original URLs automatically redirect
  • Data remains freely accessible
  • CC0/CC BY licensing preserved

What You Need to Do

For most users, no action is required.

  • Log in using your existing Chorus email address
  • Access your data as before
  • All existing Chorus URLs redirect automatically
  • Update bookmarks to proteobase.org (optional)

Migration Timeline

2014
Chorus Project Launched

Chorus was created with NIH funding to provide free, cloud-based storage and sharing for mass spectrometry proteomics data.

2014–2024
A Decade of Service

Chorus grew to serve thousands of researchers worldwide, storing terabytes of valuable proteomics data and enabling scientific collaboration.

2024
NIH Funding Ended

NIH grant funding for Chorus concluded, requiring a new home for the data.

2024
EuropaDX Commits to Preservation

EuropaDX pledged to maintain Chorus data as a free community resource within PROTEOBASE, ensuring no data would be lost.

Present
Migration Complete

All Chorus datasets are now safely housed in PROTEOBASE with automatic redirects from original Chorus URLs.

Honoring the Chorus Legacy

PROTEOBASE stands on the shoulders of giants. We are proud to continue the mission that the Chorus team began.

The Chorus Project was a pioneering initiative that transformed how the proteomics community stores, shares, and collaborates on mass spectrometry data. Born from the vision that scientific data should be accessible to all, Chorus provided free, cloud-based infrastructure when most labs were struggling with data silos and incompatible formats.

The team recognized a fundamental problem: while mass spectrometry was becoming indispensable for biomedical research, the community lacked efficient mechanisms for sharing and analyzing data collaboratively. Chorus solved this by creating a platform that made data sharing seamless, regardless of vendor format or institutional boundaries.

The Founding Team

  • Dr. Michael MacCoss — Professor, Department of Genome Sciences, University of Washington
  • Dr. Nathan Yates — University of Pittsburgh
  • Andrey Bondarenko — Software Architect (formerly Merck Research Laboratories)

For over a decade, Chorus served thousands of researchers worldwide, enabling discoveries that advanced human health. The platform became part of the broader Skyline ecosystem—a suite of freely available, open-source tools that revolutionized targeted proteomics.

At EuropaDX, we are honored to carry this legacy forward. We commit to maintaining the core principles that made Chorus invaluable: free access, open data, and researcher-first design. The proteomics community built something remarkable, and we will ensure it endures.

"The overarching goal of the Chorus project is to advance biomedical research by extending our capabilities for the storage, dissemination, sharing, and analysis of the world's mass spectrometry data."

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still access my Chorus data?

Yes! All Chorus data has been migrated to PROTEOBASE. You can log in using your existing Chorus email address, and all your projects and datasets are preserved.

Will my existing Chorus links still work?

Yes. All chorusproject.org URLs automatically redirect to their new locations within PROTEOBASE. Citations and bookmarks will continue to work.

Is PROTEOBASE still free?

Absolutely. PROTEOBASE maintains the same commitment to free, open access that Chorus established. There are no fees for data storage, sharing, or access.

What about data licensing?

All licensing terms are preserved. Data that was public under CC0 or CC BY remains under the same license. Private data remains private until you choose to release it.

Who is EuropaDX?

EuropaDX is a life sciences software company that builds the EuropaXp platform for multi-omics data analysis. We committed to preserving Chorus data as a service to the proteomics community.
