Frequently Asked Questions

What is PROTEOBASE?

PROTEOBASE is a free, open proteomics data repository designed for long-term storage, sharing, and discovery of proteomics datasets. It supports private, shared, and public data and is built on the cloud-native EuropaXp platform.

Who is PROTEOBASE for?

PROTEOBASE is designed for proteomics researchers who need a reliable repository for storing, sharing, and publishing proteomics data.

Is PROTEOBASE free to use?

Yes. Browsing public datasets and creating an account are free. There is no cost to upload, store, or access data in PROTEOBASE.

Do I need an account to use PROTEOBASE?

Yes. To ensure data security, a free account is required to access PROTEOBASE.

What types of data can I store?

PROTEOBASE supports any file type, including raw and processed proteomics data, associated metadata, and analysis outputs.

What are the privacy and access options?

Each dataset can be set to one of three access states:
  • Private: visible only to you and explicitly invited collaborators or groups
  • Public – CC0: discoverable and accessible to the broader research community and released under the Creative Commons CC0 license with no restrictions on reuse
  • Public - CC BY: discoverable and accessible to the broader research community and released under the Creative Commons CC BY license which enables reuse with attribution to the data creators

What happened to Chorus data?

Chorus has been retired, and its datasets are being preserved in PROTEOBASE to ensure long-term availability and stability for the proteomics community.

How is Chorus data handled in PROTEOBASE?

Chorus-migrated datasets are stored in an Archive state. Archived data remains safe and accessible but may take up to 12 hours to retrieve. Once retrieved, datasets can be viewed and downloaded.

Will Chorus dataset identifiers still work?

Yes. Existing Chorus dataset identifiers and links automatically redirect to the new locations within PROTEOBASE to support citation continuity and reproducibility.

How long will my data be stored?

PROTEOBASE is designed for long-term data preservation. Data is stored in durable cloud infrastructure with governance policies focused on sustainability and community access.

Who operates PROTEOBASE?

PROTEOBASE is powered by EuropaXp, a cloud platform developed by EuropaDX, a team with extensive experience building and supporting proteomics and multi-omics infrastructure.

How do I get help or report an issue?

If you have questions, encounter issues, or need assistance with a dataset, contact PROTEOBASE Support through the website or your account dashboard.
